The Search for Talent…
April 28, 2023May 7, 2023 Come to Camp Wyandot’s Open House!
April 30, 2023Help Protect Camp Wyandot from Invasive Garlic Mustard,
Sunday May 21, 2023, from 1 pm to 4:00p.m.
As part of our Hiking & Nature Club program, Retired ODNR Division of Natural Areas & Preserves manager Jim Osborn, who has worked with the Wohelo Keepers at camp the past two years, will lead a hike and research project on May 21 from 1:00 to 4:00p.m.
Join us for a short hike past Shawnee to an area where we should see some of Ohio’s finest spring wildflowers. Unfortunately the flowers, along with neighboring ferns, are competing with the non-native and invasive species garlic mustard. The spread of non-native species into native habitats across our planet is a leading cause of extinctions. We can impact our little corner of the planet by removing this weed thus allowing our native plants to thrive again.
Our activities are twofold, we will remove the garlic mustard and inventory the native plants in selected plots. We are hoping this will turn into a longer term activity with the hypothesis that the removal of garlic mustard will allow the native plants to regain ground. During the course of our time together, we will discuss plant identification and ecology of the area we are working in. Please bring a long sleeved shirt and work or garden gloves along with snacks, lunch and water. You may bring knee pads if you need them.
Please register below, so that we know who is coming.
