May 27, 2021. . . Can’t wait – Can’t wait! Is it June yet?
May 27, 2021In response to the global pandemic, I often reply with “What a time to be alive!” We are living in the chapter of a history book. COVID-19 has added a unique obstacle in terms of preparing for camp this summer. Wyandot staff and friends are volunteering their time and working diligently every day to get ready for our 93rd consecutive summer at Wyandot. As the new camp director, I was tempted to let anxiousness settle into my mind and reside there. I am quickly reminded that this is my home, and home to so many other people who have taken me under their wing along the way. I remember why we are doing what we are doing. For those little singing voices on the trails, for waking up to warblers chattering through the trees in the early morning, for leaving our comfort zone to learn a new skill, laughing boldly with old friends around the fire until our bellies ache, and falling asleep under a sea of stars with new ones. Now more than ever, it’s time to come together and stay strong. To know that even one child will feel this multi-generational love reverberating at Wyandot is worth it all.
“Few will have the greatness to bend history itself, but each of us can work to change a small portion of events, and in the total of all those acts will be written the history of a generation.”
