Wyandot Alumni Zoom for September!
August 28, 2020In Memory: Ben Arrowood
August 31, 2020Don C. McVay, 92, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2020. Daughter Bev and her husband, Bill Gish took Don into their home and lovingly cared for him the last 2 months of his life so that he could be with family in his final days. Don was on our board. Bev was camp nurse at Wyandot for many years. Don’s grandson (or Bev’s son) was a counselor at Wyandot.
Dad and mom helped take my Camp Fire Group spring camping at Wyandot. Dad donated to rebuild Egypt – many years before it actually got remodeled. He was a generous supporter of Camp Wyandot
He so enjoyed going to the Camp Wyandot luncheon every November. He loved that he ‘won” a Christmas plaque during the silent auction one year. When he put it up at Christmas, He would always tell me how he won it. The last few years, he came with his walker, and later his wheelchair. This last year, he was too sick to go, so I “won” a snowman and took it to him to go with his Merry Christmas plaque. He smiled that he had another Christmas treasure to support Camp.
Bev continues to be very helpful in the ongoing health care at Wyandot and thoughtfully wrote: “My dad would be so pleased to know the Camp Wyandot was able to operate during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a testament to your leadership and the caring of your staff members. I know the children benefited greatly.”
