Wyandot Explorers Spring Skills Weekend – May 17 – 18
April 18, 2014Memorial Day Weekend Family Camping: May 24-26
April 30, 2014Sally Hoeflinger McAlister died April 9, 2014 after a three-year struggle with cancer. She was a 1963 graduate of Hilliard High School and a Camp Fire Girl all the way through the Horizon Club. Her leaders were her mother, Rachel Hoeflinger, and Erla Chrystal. She was a counselor at Camp Wyandot using the camp name “Keewee.” In August 2011 Sally met Camp Fire friends, Sharyn Chrystal Vogel and Linda Hassell Williams, at the Alumni Weekend. The event reconnected her to Camp Wyandot and since then she returned annually for alumni weekend and served on the Luncheon Committee. Sally was a woman of strength and kindness and Camp Wyandot friends who knew her for decades or who only met her recently will miss her dearly.
Before her death Sally told her husband, John, that in lieu of flowers she wanted people to donate to Camp Wyandot in her memory. Sharyn Chrystal Vogel provided initial funds with a significant donation to start The Sally Hoeflinger McAlister Camp Wyandot Campership Fund. Almost $12,000 has been donated to date. This fund will provide youth with limited means to be able to attend camp.
Camperships provide financial assistance to benefit low income youth, entering grades 1-12, who are unable to afford to attend camp on their own. By offering camperships/financial assistance, Camp Wyandot, Inc. can reach the youth that can truly benefit from the opportunity and continue to create an inclusive and diverse camp community.
If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation in memory of Sally Hoeflinger McAlister, please make checks payable to Camp Wyandot, Inc. and write the Sally Hoefflinger-McAlister Memorial Fund on the memo line.
